Technical dictionaries?

As an engineer, I have to review a lot of technical texts. Finding the right French-English equivalence of terms is sometimes a real challenge that requires a good understanding of the technology in question. Technical dictionaries may be misleading because the words are out of context or the context is only described in broad terms. That leads to those funny user manual translations where the French is grammatically correct, but which makes the native speakers smile or wonder.

Still technical references are necessary and since I can’t take those heavy books everywhere, I like to rely on the “Grand dictionnaire terminologique” of the “Office Quebecois de la Langue Francaise”.

This is not a dictionary for everyday words, but I am always impressed by the quality of the content for the fields I know best.

Have fun exploring.
